2008 OMMS Rules 

Any Midget, Sportsman Midget, Ford Focus midget, Kenyon Midget, TQ Midget, Midget Lite, Upright Mini Sprint (No Sidewinders), or Tobias SpeedSTR may compete if it adheres to the following specs.

Must have midget/sprint car style hood and tail. Must have overall midget appearance. No wings or excessive body panels.

Driver's entire body must be located behind the rear of the engine. Engine may not be mounted beside the driver.

Bottom of seat must be a minimum of 8 inches above the bottom frame rail.

Wheels must be 13" in diameter. 

Right Rear tire must durometer 36 or harder and may be no larger than 85 inches in circumference. Cars must use the same RR tire in heat race and "A" Feature. Tires will be marked by OMMS officials before or at completion of heat race. Track conditions may warrant a minimum air pressure rule to be implemented at times.

All tires must be a minimum of 62" in circumference.
No bleeder valves allowed.

No cockpit suspension adjusters allowed. If car is equipped with cockpit adjusters they must be disabled by taping, tying, or removing handles.

A cockpit mounted dial a jet will be allowed.

Wheelbase-minimum 65" maximum 76"

Fuel tank and bladder are mandatory. Tank and bladder must be securely mounted.

Engine shall be any engine that fits in a midget. Our rules are structure to allow a lack of traction to balance the playing field. If aluminum block dry sump layed over type engines prove to be detrimental to competition and the spirit of sportsman midget racing a restictor program may be instituted. 

Direct drive with Q/C rearend or chain drive are allowed. Torque tubes must have a torque tube hoop or tether strap. U joints must be enclosed by torque ball and torque bell. Chain must be sufficiently guarded to completely shield and protect the driver and fuel tank. The chain guard must be constructed of a minimum of 12 Ga. Steel or equivalent and extend thru the driver's compartment. 

A 5 point 3" seat belts and should harness w/ metal to metal quick release hook up no older than 3 years old is required.

A full face helmet with Snell Helmet rating is required.
Arm restraints, fire-suits, gloves, and neck collar are required. Fire resistant multi-layer suit is strongly recommended.

A kill switch is required and must be within driver's reach with arm restraints on. The switch must be clearly marked and must disconnect electric fuel pump (if they exist) and ignition.

A fuel shut off must be located within the driver's reach with arm restraints on and must be clearly marked.

The battery must be mounted securely to frame.

The minimum driver head clearance is 3" measured to top of roll cage.

OMMS reserves the right to disqualify any car that is judged unsafe until corrections have been satisfactorily completed.

A fire extinguisher is required by each car in the pit area and should be located for easy access. A minimum of 5lb dry powder type fire extinguisher is recommended.

Frame-Roll cage minimum 1-1/4 x .095 wall 4130-N Chromoly Steel tubing or 1-1/4 x .120 wall mild steel tubing (cars built after Jan. 1, 1989).

Fire-wall must completely separate the engine from the driver's compartment.

Steering gear is mandatory (rack and pinion acceptable).

Steering wheel must have a rim type or push button quick release hub. (no pins)

Floor pan must extend from the front of the seat to the firewall.

Must have hydraulic brakes capable of sliding rear wheels.

Fuel type must be either gasoline or alcohol. 

Bumpers and nerf bars must be bolted to the frame. Nerf bars cannot extend past the outside of rear tires and cannot have any sharp edges or corners.

Roll bar padding is mandatory. 

Cars must display a number on the front nose and each side of tail. The number should be a minimum of 10" tall and easily identified.

The minimum age for a driver is 14 unless host track requires a higher minimum age. Proof of age may be required. A notarized document stating the permission of a parent or legal guardian is required if the driver is under 21 years of age.

Cars stopping under a yellow flag will restart from the back of the pack even if they go to their pit or designated area. You may re-enter the track under a yellow or red flag condition only. If you leave the track for any reason after you have entered the track for competition, you will start at the back of that race.

Any car emitting excessive oil, water, fuel, or smoke will be black flagged from the race.

The end of the race will be determined when the lead car receives the checkered flag regardless of how many laps the rest of the cars have completed.

A driver that qualifies the car can be replaced. No additional points will be awarded to either driver for the rest of that race program. The car will start at the rear of the feature for which it has qualified. It will be paid for its' finishing position.

Each car must have the driver or a representative of the car attend the driver's meeting before each evening's event. Failure to attend this meeting may cause the car to start at the tail of the heat race.

Points are earned by actual finishing position regardless of non-member cars finishing positions.

A car must take a green flag in a race or hotlaps to receive points.

Points will follow the driver. 

No points will be given to a driver whose car does not have all the required sponsor decals.

You must participate in at least 50% of the races ran per season to be eligible for point fund awards. 

If you do not have a point average, you will start at the rear of the heat race. If you are not a member of the OMMS you are not awarded points.

The Series is formed and operated for the proposed heretofore stated and will not be held liable for any damages incurred by or to any individual or group of individuals in their pursuit of racing. Any person engaged in the sport of racing in any capacity assumes all risks and recognizes the hazards involved and, this releases and discharges the Association, its' Officers, Officials and Members from any and all liability and claims of any nature.
