OMMS Season Opener Cancelled, blame Mother Nature

HARTVILLE, Mo. -- Rain rain, get out of my face, the OMMS is ready to race.

Heavy rain combined with a bleak forecast has once again put a halt on the OMMS season opener scheduled for May 9 at Dallas County Speedway in Urbana, MO.

Dallas County Speedway also announced today that their night of operation will change to Sunday for the 2008 season. The OMMS expects to maintain the scheduled weekends at DCS but the dates will change to Sunday instead of Friday. Expect confirmation soon.

For the guys needing a fix, the MOLS is running non wing 1200s at I-70 Speedway (MO) on Saturday night and the POWRI Midget series is at Tri City Speedway (IL) on Friday and Belle Claire Speedway(IL) on Saturday.

The next OMMS race is scheduled for Sunday, June 1st at XX Speedway in California, MO.

Ozark Mountain Midget Series 2008 Schedule Announced

Twelve points races and three non points races at 5 tracks make up the 2008 Ozark Mountain Midget Series schedule.

The OMMS is excited to spread its lack of wings to Double X Speedway in California, MO on four dates in 2008. The location of XX Speedway makes it a perfect place for drivers from the Springfield, Kansas City, and St Louis areas to meet on neutral ground.

The OMMS will also cross state lines to join the rejuvenated Oklahoma Ford Focus Series for three races at Brills Motor Speedway in Meeker, OK. The OK Focus Posse will return the favor by making three trips to Dallas County Speedway in Urbana, MO during the heat of Summer.

The OMMS is working to return to the roots of midget racing in July. Midget Racing at the County Fair is an American tradition that has been all but lost over the years. As soon as all the kinks are worked out the OMMS expects to confirm a county fair race on a temporary track in Central Missouri.

The OMMS will once again wrap up the season with the 2nd annual "Turkey Open Wheel Classic" at Springfield Raceway in November. Midgets will join 360 sprint cars and modifieds to take the chill out of the cold November air.

Get ‘em While They’re Hot: 2008 Marty Boyer Fundraiser Calendars

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Marty Boyer is a dear friend of the Open Wheel racing community. He has been instrumental in covering Sprint and Midget racing all over the Midwest and has helped many up-and-coming drivers throughout the years.

Last month, Marty suffered a devastating stroke and is working hard to get well. Everyone in the racing world wishes him a complete and speedy recovery.

Marty and his family will have a lot to deal with during this time, and a special fund has been set up to help ease the financial burden. The folks at POWRi Racing, the St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club, WhoWon.com and Two Girls Gone Racin’ have joined forces in an attempt to increase contributions to the Marty Boyer Fund.

These organizations have combined their efforts to create the 2008 POWRi Racing Calendar which lists all of the POWRi Midget and Micro dates for 2008. The calendar starts with the month of March and each of its twelve months has a collage of either Midget or Micro photos. All of these images were shot in the past couple of years at various Illinois tracks by Two Girls Gone Racin’.

Calendars are priced at $20 each, with all of the profits - $8 per calendar - going to the Marty Boyer Fund. The calendars will be available at many POWRi events throughout the season or may be ordered by mail. Information about mail orders may be found by following the 2008 POWRi Marty Boyer Fundraiser Calendar link on www.twogirlsgoneracin.com or by emailing Valerie@twogirlsgoneracin.com

Attendees of the March “Open Wheel Racing Night” St. Louis Auto Racing Fan Club meeting in Belleville, Illinois had their first glimpse of the calendars and it received rave reviews. Fifteen calendars were sold at this event, which was highlighted by interviews with several local POWRi drivers, done by Eileen Waters. Attendees were also invited to sign a get well card for Marty.

We are excited to offer these calendars and we hope that you will join us in our efforts to help Marty and his family.

First Ozark Mountain Midget Race Postponed Due to Weather Concerns

HARTVILLE, Mo. -- The Ozark Mountain Midget Series is committed to taking care of it owners and drivers.

With that in mind we are sad to announce that the inaugural race scheduled for May 5 at Dallas County Speedway has been postponed. The recent rain coupled with the weekend forecast make the likelihood of getting the show in very slim.

With fuel prices upwards of $3.00/ gallon the last thing we want is for someone to travel a long distance only to have Mother Nature slap them in the face.

We hope this decision has been made soon enough to allow our racers to make other plans for the weekend.

A make-up date will be announced soon. Until then we wish everyone a safe weekend and we will see you at the next one.

OMMS Race One Ready to Rock

HARTVILLE, Mo. -- The inaugural race for the newly formed Ozark Mountain Midget Series for sportsman midgets will fire off on Saturday, May 5th at Dallas County Speedway in Urbana, MO.

Mickey Thompson DOT tires combined with small dirt tracks allow national midgets, Ford Focus midgets, Kenyon midgets, older midgets, and upright mini sprints to race head to head on equal footing. The parity that comes from a lack of grip insures that the driver who makes the fewest mistakes is going to beat the driver who has the biggest budget.

Any midget that passes a safety inspection is invited to come and enjoy the laid back atmosphere and pure enjoyment provided by sportsman midget racing.

Thanks to a generous contribution from the Illini Racing Series, Mickey Thompson “loaner” tires will be available which will eliminate any extra expense for car owners who wish to try out sportsman racing.

For more info on rules, purse structure, directions, etc or to reserve a set of legal tires contact Dustin Arnall at www.ozarkmountainmidgets.com

Feb. 16, 2007

Starting in 2007 will be the Ozark Mountain Midget Series for SPORTSMAN MIDGETS.

The series is a spin-off of the ILLINI RACING SERIES in the Chicago area.At this point, the series will race strictly on dirt.Schedule will be limited to tracks no larger than 1/3 mile. 1/4 miles are perfect for us.

OMMS is based in Southwest Missouri.

Any 4 cylinder midget or upright mini sprint (13" wheels, bladder, and no wings) is legal. The rules are designed to keep OEM type engines and older midget packages competitive with any engine package currently used in midget racing.Chassis specs are in place to keep older cars competitive.Mickey Thompson Sportsman DOT tires are the series spec for all 4 corners. The tires lack of grip balances out the competition to an amazing level. With this rules package, 20 year old cars frequently win races/ Quad 4 spec engines frequently win championships.

Two tracks are already on board to provide a 14-20 race schedule in 2007.Complete schedule coming soon. OMMS is waiting to see final schedules for SMRS, MARA, POWERi, & MOLS. We do not want to schedule on top of any other groups in this region if at all possible. At this point we expect 12-18 cars on opening day.

IF YOU THINK YOUR EQUIPMENT CAN'T BE COMPETETIVE,OR IF YOU THINK YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO ENTER THE EXCITING WORLD OF MIDGET RACING WE WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND!
